For Children. For Families. For Life.

Roger Neilson Children’s Hospice is a unique home-like environment designed for the most challenging journey that families can experience. A journey that most families cannot imagine having to take.

Our uniquely trained, highly skilled and compassionate team cares for children, youth and families. We are there from the early stages of a life-limiting illness to end-of-life care and grief support. When a life ends, our compassion and support continue.

Our daily purpose, which gets us all up and going each day and every shift, is our commitment to enhancing the quality of young lives. To ease a difficult journey for children you and their families. To create memorable moments, lasting memories and enduring legacies.

We are here for children and their families. We are here to enrich the quality of every life, no matter how short.

Those who have visited us and talked to our team and families and who knew the late Roger Neilson have often observed – that Roger Neilson Children’s Hospice is a special place and a fitting legacy for Roger’s warmth, empathy, lifelong passions for community, creativity, empathy, families, and children. We are proud to carry his name, carry on his values, and celebrate his life and legacy.

One-of-a-kind pediatric palliative care for our communities.

While Roger Neilson was one of a kind, Roger Neilson Children’s Hospice is only one of a handful of pediatric hospice palliative care facilities across Canada.

In partnership with the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club, the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), and the CHEO Foundation, Roger Neilson Children’s Hospice was imagined and created to honour an extraordinary man who gave so much and cared so deeply. We opened in 2006, marking the beginning of a new era of delivering palliative care services.

For children experiencing a progressive, life-limiting illness and for their immediate and extended families, there is no other place in Ottawa, Eastern Ontario, Western Québec and Nunavut like Roger Neilson Children’s Hospice. In children’s regional healthcare, we are, as Roger Neilson was in hockey and life, one of a kind.

Roger Neilson Children’s Hospice is an independent not-for-profit pediatric hospice with a dedicated and caring multidisciplinary healthcare team, volunteers and support staff.

We are a contributing and respected member of national, provincial and regional networks of specialized healthcare organizations, including the Canadian National Hospice Care Association, Hospice Palliative Care Ontario, Kids Come First, Champlain Regional Palliative Care Network, and Volunteer Ottawa to name a few.

We are activeoriginal members in the Kids Come First Health Team, a leader in mobilizing partners to develop and implement innovative services and programs. We take great pride in being part of this innovative partnership of more than 60 community-based organizations, physicians, and family and youth partners across Eastern Ontario.

Together with like-minded healthcare professionals, we encourage research and information sharing.

We support a collaborative, cooperative and comprehensive approach to meeting the unique care needs of children and families across all our communities.

Connections that support comprehensive care for children and support for families.

Our clinical partnership, long-time collaboration history, and proximity to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) means convenient access between facilities. This partnership and proximity between Roger Neilson Children’s Hospice and CHEO is unique in Canada. Roger Neilson Children’s Hospice and CHEO collaboratively coordinate their child’s care so they can focus on the moments that bring comfort and lasting memories. Our connections to CHEO also extend to fundraising, as the CHEO Foundation fully supports and manages primary donations and fundraising for us.
